A H1N1 (Swine Flu) is here, but don’t be panic

An AH1N1 flu case, imported from the United States, was confirmed at the Faculty of Public Health yesterday, but this should not terrify you. The Faculty of Public Health has taken all recommended steps to ensure the effective containment of the Flu. This message, however, is meant to encourage you to seriously take precaution measures. There are:

  • Eat well cooked and warm foods
  • Use serving spoons when sharing foods with others
  • Always wash your hands before eating
  • Avoid crowded places
  • If you have fever, see a medical doctor immediately
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a handkerchief when coughing or sneezing
  • Use a facial mask if you have to take care of or get close to an infected person.

WHO fellows from the Ministry of Health Myanmar, Dr. Nay Myo Ohn and Dr. Tun Aung Kyi, were trained in Border Area Health Programmes organized by the International Affairs unit. They completed their training program and received certificates on February 6, 2009.Dr. Phitaya Charupoonphol conferred certificates and gifts to both fellows who expressed their gratitude for the knowledge and experiences they gained during the training period. Both fellows returned to Myanmar on February 7, 2009.
 
Students from National Taiwan University have completed three-week field training in Sara Buri and Nakorn Sawan provinces. Professor Shih Wei Tsai from National Taiwan University arrived in Bangkok on February 19 and met Assoc. Prof. Phitaya Charupoonphol, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health on Friday February 20, 2009 to discuss students’ field training. Prof. Tsai was scheduled to meet with Taiwanese students on February 20 and 21 in Sara Buri and Nakorn Sawan provinces, respectively. They will be leaving for Taiwan on February 22, 2009. Farewell!
 
Prof.Somei Kojima and Ebata Yonshie with five graduate students from International University of Health and Wefare,Otawara City,Japan  visited the Faculty of Public Health,Mahidol University during February 25 – March 6, 2009. The group was welcomed by Dean Pitaya Charupoonphol, administrative and faculty members. The aims of this trip were to learn and share the experiences in health care services focusing on Maternal and child health.
